LIBERTY IN CHRIST WITH PURPOSE

(Relevant Scriptures to read: Ecclesiastes 3:1-17, Romans 8:28, and Galatians 5:1


Each year Americans celebrate the 4th of July, Independence Day and this has little meaning to people who are oppressed in a nation that says in The Declaration of Independence as written in 1776 ..."that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness..." During the time this declaration was written, the country was in the midst of a revolution and African Americans also fought in the war for freedom for this country that we call "America." I am giving a brief summary as a reminder to open the eyes of everyone for realizing that the struggles of conflict and racial division have continued despite the efforts for man made laws and wars to make changes. We must look to Jesus Christ for everything that we are experiencing as a whole because regardless of one's background, ethnicity, or religious beliefs; no one is exempt from feeling the pressures of societal upheavals. Protests, wars, loss of life in the name of freedom and justice, reformation, and many calls for action to change disparaging and dehumanizing targeted groups of people has not brought about "unity" and "brotherly love." The time when people get together whether for personal gain or a collective concern; there is an appearance of changing for the betterment of all people, but so often these actions are short lived. Over the years of my life from childhood to adulthood, I have watched the transition of this nation and have seen that there is a movement going back in time to where I remember it to be more than 50 years ago. Perhaps, we remained in this state of no change and we were unaware that the same struggles never ended as they were 100+ years ago? Tolerating injustice and being overlooked as contributors to this nation seems to be an ongoing plight for "People of Color" - the many shades and nationalities that are in this world serve a purpose to God and His Kingdom. "After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, SALVATION TO OUR GOD WHICH SITTETH UPON THE THRONE, AND UNTO THE LAMB." [Revelation 7:9-10]


Presently, we are in the midst of "spiritual warfare" that is manifesting itself into natural forms. As a nation, we are in constant conflict at various levels and the list is growing daily. However, the Good News is that we have a Savior, Jesus Christ, who is the greatest equalizer and peacemaker. Therefore, as we endure these mini battles of life, we have purpose in the time period in which we live and the liberty is in Jesus and not man; this is to be celebrated everyday.


May you be purposeful about your walk with Jesus Christ in all things and be reminded that there is freedom in Him. "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." [John 8:36]
