As we celebrate Independence Day in America today, I wonder how many people will stop to give praise and honor to Jesus to thank Him for providing freedom for humanity through His compassion on the Cross. Jesus paid a price with His life to free us from sin, not to free us to sin. "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." [Galatians 5:1] However, somewhere over the ages, many have stopped paying homage to Jesus. With all of the institutions and choices to select from, there seems to be little or no mention of this one and only Savior who came down from Heaven to save us. He is truly the liberator of mankind that we may continue to establish unity and love towards each other and put aside differences of race, culture, religion, and other aspects of our diversity.
Perhaps freedom for some is to do whatever they decide feels good for them at the moment, to others maybe freedom to speak and to live well, practice religious choices, voting, and moving freely throughout society. Freedom has different meanings for some, dependent on the maturity of those to accept and be responsible for the divine assignment that The LORD has purposed us to carry out. Our living is not just to do what pleases us, rather we have been given an opportunity to make the time we have left on planet Earth to make an intentional impact on society. For the Believers in Jesus Christ, I pray that non-Believers will become changed by the examples that we set positively. We have been set apart to let the world see that Jesus is still alive and that the light that we should project will bring an unbelieving people to their knees before He returns. But if not, we have support in The Holy Bible that emphasizes what will happen: " Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." [Philippians 2:9-11]
Independence Day is not about the fireworks, the barbecues, nor celebrating by drinking alcoholic beverages, or any other worldly devices. May we ponder the historical dynamics of this country, but most importantly take a moment to give some consideration of who made us and why are we here.
May The Lord Bless each of you with the Peace that only He can give to bring back your Joy. God is our sustainer and He will take care of every situation when we lean on Him and allow Him to take control of our lives, but we must have the faith to trust Him as our Redeemer who paid the price for our Salvation that we may live freely without bondage.
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." [John 8:36]
